Platform Comparison · Updated July 2026
Looking for a Cambly Alternative?
Start with the part that decides it for most people: Cambly teaches English, and Unox currently teaches Chinese and nothing else. If you are here for English practice, Cambly is your platform and this page can save you the click.
The Key Difference
Two different products, not two versions of the same one. Cambly is built for instant English speaking practice — open the app, talk to someone. Unox is built for scheduled 1-on-1 lessons with a teacher you chose in advance, currently in Chinese. Pick by which of those you actually want this month.
Cambly and Unox — Side by Side
A description of how each platform works, not a scoreboard.
| Feature | Cambly | Unox |
|---|---|---|
| Languages taught | English only | Chinese (Mandarin) only — no English teachers on Unox today |
| The model | On-demand: connect to a tutor within minutes | Scheduled: you book a specific time with a specific teacher |
| Lesson shape | Conversation practice with a native English speaker | 1-on-1 lesson led by the teacher you booked |
| Who sets the price | Subscription plans set by Cambly | Each teacher sets their own rate |
| Trial lessons | See Cambly's current plans | A teacher may set a discounted first lesson; it is optional, so not every teacher has one |
| After the lesson | See Cambly for its current lesson tools | Teachers can send written notes and homework in the platform |
| Size and maturity | Established platform with iOS and Android apps | New and small; used in a browser today, with a mobile app in development |
| Best described as | Speaking practice on tap | Scheduled Chinese lessons with a human teacher |

Where the Two Differ
Three differences that actually change which one you should use.
On-demand vs scheduled
Cambly's whole design is that you press a button and someone is there. Unox's is that you pick a teacher, pick a slot, and they prepare for it. Neither is better in the abstract — they suit different weeks and different goals.
Different languages entirely
Cambly teaches English. Unox currently has teachers for Chinese and nothing else. If English is what you are learning, Unox has nothing for you today and Cambly does — that is the practical end of the comparison.
What you keep afterwards
Unox teachers can write notes and set homework in the platform after a session, so the lesson leaves a record behind. If you want conversation minutes rather than a paper trail, that machinery is overhead you do not need.
When Cambly Is the Right Choice
Often. Here is where Cambly does something Unox does not attempt.
You are learning English
This is the whole decision for most visitors. Cambly teaches English; Unox has no English teachers today. If English is your target language, stop here and use Cambly.
You want to practise on impulse
Cambly's on-demand model means you can connect with a tutor in minutes rather than booking days ahead. For an unpredictable schedule, or a spare twenty minutes you did not plan for, that is a real feature and Unox does not replicate it.
You want speaking minutes, not a curriculum
If the goal is simply getting comfortable talking — not grammar instruction, homework or exam preparation — an on-demand conversation platform is a reasonable and cheaper way to buy that time.
Learning Chinese instead?
That is what Unox has teachers for right now. Read the profiles, see when they are free, and tell your teacher what you are working towards when you book.
