italki Alternative
Looking for an italki Alternative?
This page is on Unox's own site, so here is the useful version: Unox is a new and small marketplace of human teachers, and right now the only language taught here is Chinese. Below is what that means next to italki.
Unox and italki — side by side
Two very different sizes of platform. This table describes how each one works, not which one is better.
| Feature | italki | Unox |
|---|---|---|
| Languages taught | 150+ languages | Chinese (Mandarin) — the only language taught on Unox today |
| Size of the platform | Large, long-established marketplace with a big teacher community | New and small — the teacher roster is still getting started |
| How teachers are listed | Two listing types: Community Tutors and Professional Teachers | One listing type; teachers join by application, reviewed before the profile goes live |
| Who sets lesson prices | Each teacher sets their own rate | Each teacher sets their own rate |
| Trial lessons | Each teacher sets their own trial price | Optional — a teacher can set a discounted trial price; not every teacher offers one |
| After the lesson | See italki for its current lesson tools | Teachers can send written notes and homework through the platform |
| Apps | iOS and Android apps | Use the site in a browser today; an iOS and Android app is in development |
italki details are summarised from italki's public site as of July 2026 and may change — check italki for current terms.
What Unox actually offers today
Live lessons with a human teacher
Every lesson on Unox is a scheduled 1-on-1 session with a person. There is no automated stand-in and no self-study course — if no teacher is available for what you want, Unox has nothing to sell you.
Notes and homework live with the lesson
Teachers can write up notes and set homework in the platform after a session, so the lesson does not disappear when the call ends. Whether a given teacher uses it is up to them.
Chinese only, for now
Unox currently has teachers for Chinese and nothing else. If you are learning Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German or anything else, italki already has teachers for it and Unox does not.
When italki is the better choice
Most of the time, if you have landed here from a search, italki is the practical answer. It supports 150+ languages and has a far larger teacher pool than Unox. If you want breadth of choice, a wide range of price points, scheduling options at any hour, or a language other than Chinese, italki can serve you and Unox cannot.
Unox is worth a look if you are learning Chinese, you are happy with a short list of teachers rather than a big catalogue, and you want notes and homework kept in one place alongside the lessons.
