Understanding German culture makes the language make more sense.
In Germany, being 5 minutes late is considered late. Whether it's a dinner reservation, a tour, or a meeting, arrive on time. The stereotype is true — and it extends to public transport, which runs like clockwork.
Germans tend to be direct and say exactly what they mean. A 'no' is a no, not a negotiation opener. Don't mistake directness for unfriendliness — it's a sign of respect for your time.
Almost all shops in Germany (including supermarkets) are closed on Sundays by law. Stock up on Saturday. Gas stations and some bakeries are exceptions — but don't count on them for a full shop.
German pronunciation is systematic once you know the rules — a single lesson with a native speaker will unlock the patterns and give you real confidence before you land.
